The idea
This program is a wellbeing programme designed to support new mums in Enfield through connection, movement, and shared experience.
Many mothers face isolation, anxiety, and a loss of identity after birth, with limited access to ongoing, community-based support. This project creates a safe, inclusive space where mums and their babies can come together weekly to feel supported, build confidence, and connect with others navigating early motherhood.
The programme will include Mum & Baby Circle sessions focused on peer support and gentle postpartum movement, alongside expert-led workshops covering maternal mental health, confidence, and matrescence.
The project will end with a community brunch, celebrating the mums involved and strengthening local connections. A peer-support WhatsApp group will ensure relationships continue beyond the programme.
What we'll deliver
- Mum & Baby Circle sessions (up to 15 mums per session)
- expert-led workshops (mental wellbeing, confidence, matrescence)
- Journals and wellbeing materials for 40 mums
- Refreshments at each session that support postpartum
Why it's a great idea
This project directly addresses maternal isolation and postnatal mental health challenges, which are increasingly common but often under-supported after initial healthcare contact ends.
By creating a consistent, welcoming space, Mère + Me: Held & Heard will help mothers feel seen, heard, and supported during a critical life transition. Participants will benefit from improved emotional wellbeing, increased confidence, and a stronger sense of identity beyond motherhood.
The project also strengthens community cohesion by bringing together women from diverse backgrounds in Enfield, encouraging meaningful connections and peer support. These relationships often extend beyond the programme, reducing long-term isolation.
Early intervention at this stage not only supports mothers but also positively impacts their babies and wider families. When mothers are supported, families are stronger and communities thrive. I believe that mothers should have access to this in a non clinical setting
