As the centre for excellence in printmaking in the north east for almost 30 years, Northern Print is uniquely equipped to offer access to professional equipment, materials and technical know-how, delivering an authentic, meaningful learning experience to everyone who engages with us regardless of age, ability or circumstances.
We are committed to delivering creative learning and engagement opportunities, bringing people of all backgrounds together to learn new skills, overcome social isolation, and experience the joy of making their own mark with print.
In order to challenge socio- economic barriers experienced disproportionately by members of Newcastle's east end community, our ambition is to offer a series of completely free courses and drop-in sessions covering a variety of printmaking techniques nurturing transferable skills, and making space for connection, integration, and friendship.
What we'll deliver:
- 16 half day workshops for community groups within Newcastle East
- 8 half day drop in activities for the local community including families and older people
- Access and transport support
- An exhibition celebrating the creativity of the local community
Why it's a great idea:
Making a Mark in Newcastle East will provide 4 key benefits:
Support new skills and lifelong learning through access to professional equipment, materials and technical know-how to give an authentic, high quality experience.
Opportunities for people with different needs and viewpoints to come together to share a collective experience and overcome social isolation.
Promote mental health and wellbeing by encouraging people to give to others, through shared knowledge and experience. Encouraging mindfulness, by creating opportunities for participants to ‘lose themselves’ in absorbing and creative activities.
Exhibition celebrating the creativity of the local community online and at Northern Print, creating further opportunity for dialogue and creative exchange.
Steps to get it done:
- Identify and engage with community stakeholders
- Schedule and promote drop-in activities
- Plan, install and deliver end of project exhibition
