Ludlow Male Voice Choir – 20 Years of Music, Friendship & Wellbeing
For two decades, Ludlow Male Voice Choir (LMVC) has brought men together through a shared passion for singing. More than just a choir, LMVC is a vibrant community where music fosters friendship, enhances wellbeing, and uplifts audiences across South Shropshire and beyond.
A Legacy of Harmony
Founded in 2005 by David Swain, LMVC quickly gained recognition under its first Musical Director, Margaret Davies. Today, under the expert leadership of professional tenor Darren Clarke and pianist Jane Hughes, the choir continues to captivate audiences with its rich harmonies and diverse repertoire.
From local concerts to high-profile collaborations, LMVC has built a reputation for excellence. Highlights include a moving First World War centenary performance, a powerful 2018 concert with the world-renowned Onllwyn Male Choir, and a record-breaking 15 public performances in 2023.
2024 – A Landmark Year
Celebrating 20 years, LMVC has performed at the prestigious Llangollen International Eisteddfod, Croft Castle’s Christmas celebrations, and a sold-out Ludlow Brewery concert. The choir also supports vital causes, raising funds for the British Lung Foundation, British Heart Foundation, and Caitlin’s Kickstart Charity. Looking ahead, LMVC is committed to raising awareness of prostate cancer, using music to highlight this important men's health issue.
The Benefits of Singing Together
Choral singing enhances mental and physical health, reduces stress, and fosters deep social connections. LMVC provides a welcoming space where members find camaraderie, confidence, and the sheer joy of making music.
A Repertoire to Inspire
LMVC’s performances range from stirring Welsh hymns (Gwahoddiad, Calon Lân) to pop classics by Simon & Garfunkel, Rod Stewart, and Elvis Presley. The choir’s operatic and choral pieces, including Verdi’s Speed Your Journeyand Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, showcase its versatility. To mark its 20th anniversary, LMVC is preparing a special arrangement of Brothers in Arms, composed exclusively by Caroline Clarke.
