The idea
For many children who receive free school meals their school lunch is the only decent meal of the day. During the school holidays this meal is unavailable, and for many families the need to provide an extra five meals a week per school-age child can push them over the edge of what they can afford. The Littlehampton Lunchbox project aims to relieve that pressure throughout the summer holiday by providing 10 meals per fortnight to each student at The Littlehampton Academy who receives free school meals.
What we'll deliver
- We will provide 10 lunches per fortnight for eligible children
Why it's a great idea
We don't believe that anyone in our community should go hungry, and that includes children. We're running this pilot scheme with The Littlehampton Academy in order to provide lunches for their students who have free school meals during term-time but whose families may not be able to afford the extra food during the summer holiday.
Steps to get it done
- Acquiring approximately 1000 boxes
- Acquiring sufficient food to fill approximately 1000 boxes
- Packing the boxes
- Sending the paperwork home with TLA students
