The idea
Little Athletes delivery will be a three-hour weekly sport, physical and social session that cater for all levels of ability in a welcoming, safe and accessible environment aimed at parents/carers and their child/ren enjoying themselves, learning new skills and emphasis will be placed on supporting families to access Little Athletes on a long-term basis.
Activities will include multi-sports, mini-bikes, problem solving physical activities and multi-family activities that all taking part can get involved with. All sessions will be led by trained instructors who have overall responsibility for the planning and implementation of activities provided.
Another key aim is for parents/carers and children who are isolated to become more socially active through Little Athletes. To achieve this sessions include access to health drinks/fruit in the cafe and our instructors will actively promote conversation and interaction with the aim that friendships are developed in and out of the sessions.
What we'll deliver
- Safe, welcoming, fun and educational opportunities for families through sport, physical and social interaction.
- Provide residents who find themselves isolated with the opportunity to become more physically and socially active
- Increase the number of sporting and physical activities that are available that families participate in together.
Why it's a great idea
As a result of Little Athletes being in place we will focus on parents/carers from households of low-income with children aged under 5 including young parents/carers who find themselves isolated and unable to access opportunity due to the financial burden that they face.
Little Athletes will support parents/carers and their child/ren:
To become more engaged within their communities.
Increase their friendship base.
Become more physically and socially active.
Learn new skills and ideas to stay active as a family.
More connected to other specialist services and opportunities within their community, who will be attending sessions to promote what they offer and our team will also be promoting local opportunities to parents/carers also through our online newsletter that will go to all attendees on a fortnightly basis.
Increase confidence and self-esteem.
