Little Athletes delivery will be a three-hour weekly sport, physical and social session that cater for all levels of ability in a welcoming, safe and accessible environment aimed at parents/carers and their child/ren enjoying themselves, learning new skills and emphasis will be placed on supporting families to access Little Athletes on a long-term basis. Activities will include multi-sports, mini-bikes, problem solving physical activities and multi-family activities that all taking part can get involved with. All sessions will be led by trained instructors who have overall responsibility for the planning and implementation of activities provided. Another key aim is for parents/carers and children who are isolated to become more socially active through Little Athletes. To achieve this sessions include access to health drinks/fruit in the cafe and our instructors will actively promote conversation and interaction with the aim that friendships are developed in and out of the sessions.

What we'll deliver:

  • Safe, welcoming, fun and educational opportunities for families through sport, physical and social interaction.
  • Provide residents who find themselves isolated with the opportunity to become more physically and socially active
  • Increase the number of sporting and physical activities that are available that families participate in together.

Why it's a great idea:

As a result of Little Athletes being in place we will focus on parents/carers from households of low-income with children aged under 5 including young parents/carers who find themselves isolated and unable to access opportunity due to the financial burden that they face. Little Athletes will support parents/carers and their child/ren: To become more engaged within their communities. Increase their friendship base. Become more physically and socially active. Learn new skills and ideas to stay active as a family. More connected to other specialist services and opportunities within their community, who will be attending sessions to promote what they offer and our team will also be promoting local opportunities to parents/carers also through our online newsletter that will go to all attendees on a fortnightly basis. Increase confidence and self-esteem.

Steps to get it done:

  • All required staff and venue to be used secured and Little Athletes sessions booked by end of July 2023.
  • Partnering organisations who support families from households of low-income engaged and working alongside from April
  • All NHS and public health providers aware of Little Athletes and have information to promote to families from July 23.
  • Promotional materials in place for distribution early July 2023.
  • Review of delivery takes place every 3 months after start of programme in Sept 2023.

Overfunding

This project is enabled for overfunding. If the project hits its funding goal before the end of the campaign period, any extra funds raised will be spent (in order of priority) on:

  • The continuation of Little Athletes after timelines for delivery as outlined within this application has been reached.
  • More equipment, which then means we do not have to find any further funding for equipment after this funding ceases
  • For staff time to produce a performance report which will be used to support funding application aimed at securing the long-term delivery of Little Athletes.
