Clapton Commons Community Organisation Limited (known as Clapton Commons) is a group of local people who do stuff together to promote the "common good".
We do this by supporting leaders in the community who want to make things happen with and for their neighbours. We have a Community Builder who helps with this.
For example we saw the redundant toilet block on Clapton Common and went into partnership with the Council to turn it into Liberty Hall.
Our last Spacehive campaign in 2018 got us over the line.
Our volunteers also transformed the ground around Liberty Hall into a beautiful garden and others help to run the weekly Foodbank at St Thomas’ church.
Over the course of the first lockdown we organised a weekly memorial circle on the Common for those from our community who died and pasted their names on the hoarding around Liberty Hall. Our "Grief Wall" was covered by the international press.
We have three practices that guide the way we work – “give and take”, “in it together” and “down to you.”
