We would like to train up more of our volunteers to become trained swimming coaches and teachers. Currently funds are limited but with more teachers we could run more sessions at our club
As a swimming club we would like to extend the number of sessions that we hold and the limiting factor is the number of coaches and teachers that we have at Leyland Barracudas. We have self funded a number of our volunteers to take these expensive courses but with pressures on costs we are currently unable to extend this to a number of people who would like to become trained. As a result we have had to cancel a number of sessions over the past 6 months due to the lack of coaches being available which directly impacts our young swimmers on their swimming journey. We are hoping to raise money to allow us to fund a number Level 1 and Level 2 coaching qualifications for our volunteers to allow us to maintain and expand our swimming provision in Leyland and the surrounding areas. We are a club that has over 200 swimmers of all abilities from those at the start of their swimming journey to the Masters who represent the club at the older age.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Leyland Barracudas Swimming Club needs a well resourced, properly qualified workforce in order to deliver its teaching and coaching to over 200 swimmers in Leyland and the surrounding area. As children progress through the club there is a turnover of parents who are willing and able to help provide support on poolside therefore we have a rolling requirement to continually refresh and retrain our workforce to meet the Swim England criteria. With additional trained teachers and coaches the club will be able to ensure that the current programme can be delivered, we can work with local authorities to explore the potential to run more 'learn to swim' programmes (reducing the reliance on taxpayer funding) and we can also provide opportunities for our younger volunteers to play a part in the running of the club. With more funding we can expand our Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) programme to give our 14 and 15 year olds a formal qualification and invaluable life experiences.
