Artmongers Action is a Community Interest Company formed in 2003 to create public artworks that genuinely improve our shared spaces, engaging local people with a sense of pride and ownership. Our focus is 'Art in situations of Adversity' and within this, our range is wide: from mental health service users, to disenfranchised communities. We have developed artworks for an autistic spectrum clinic in St Thomas Hospital and at Maudsley for young people with mental disorders, collaborating with health specialists in the creative processes. We have also produced murals for people with dementia and the homeless. We made murals with youth at risk from Pepys Estate and involved people in participatory processes in New Cross, Deptford, Telegraph Hill and Lewisham Central.
Some of our partners in South East London are Goldsmiths, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Lewisham Council and Lewisham Homes and internationally UNHCR, Care Jordan and War Child amonst others.
We have a methodology that is proven to deliver a solid community engagement process, as well as an interesting looking and long lasting mural, followed by evaluation and reports.
Over the years, we have made work in many mediums and environments and have gradually specialised in murals which involve communities - from the idea generation to the finished art work, reaching hundreds of thousands of people.
