Together with the young people on our training program, and regular volunteers, we grow sustainable and seasonal fruit, veg and flowers for the local community, on 2.5 acres of land in the heart of residential Wolverton. Our motto is “growing food, growing communities and growing people” and this is what we aim to do in our work each and every day.
We are part of a larger local charity called Milton Keynes Christian Foundation, which creates opportunities for people and communities, particularly those experiencing disadvantage, to learn, grow and achieve. This is an “all faiths and none” charity which works with people from all religions, cultures and backgrounds.
Trainees work towards qualifications and Functional Skills (English and maths) while at the Urb Farm, and our aim is for them to develop their self-confidence, social skills, employability skills and personal development as a whole while with us. Furthermore, we work with them to progress onto college, an apprenticeship or employment.
At the Urb Farm we also have a holistic and therapeutic outdoor learning project called The Learning Tree. Members of the local community (including parents and pre-schoolers, local schoolchildren with severe learning difficulties and children after school) come and learn how to cook on the campfire, build dens, create woodland crafts, and explore the great outdoors.
