The idea
We wish to hire a mental health information officer to host coffee and chat sessions where people can drop in and seek advice about their mental health.
We wish to engage with coffee houses in the city to raise awareness of mental health and the importance of seeking help and talking, leading to early intervention.
We also want to create a community hub at our central office in Leicester as a place to also host drop-in appointments in a more private space.
What we'll deliver
- Free Mental Health Information and Support to the communities of Leicester
- Host Coffee and Chat sessions to encourage people to seek advice and talk
- Enagage with local coffee houses to promote mental health and raise awareness of Lamp
Why it's a great idea
You’ve probably heard the statistics that 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental health illness during their lives and ‘one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds’ (WHO 2019). Our hope is that, should one of those people be yourself or someone you know or love, the type of life-enhancing support services Lamp offers would be readily available to make that difference. The coronavirus has created such a mental health storm among communities it is so important more than ever to reach out and support those people as soon as possible. Having a place where you can drop in and speak to someone independent from NHS services is vital for people unsure where to turn.
‘Over half of all 16 – 64-year-old in Leicester meet the diagnostic criteria for at least one common mental health problem. ‘In Leicester the number diagnosed with depression is approximately 36,000.- Those with a mental health disorder (schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other psychosis) are 3,378' - LCCG 2021
Steps to get it done
- Set up a Coffee and Chat sessions
- Employ a dedicated Mental Health Information Officer
