Kids on the Green was started as an emergency response project to the Grenfell Tower fire on June 15th 2017. It grew into a successful community project on the Norland Green space that continued until end of September. KOTG delivers a fusion of play, arts inc circus and sports whilst also offering local young people a safe and supported space to get to know their neighbours and community and access well being such as art therapy and counselling on requestor . KOTG when delivering on Edward Woods offers a chance for the community to reclaim a large and fantastic green space for their use , where by before it was deemed a place of high anti social behaviour. This summer we have returned to the KOTG birth place on Norland Green open space and deliver the same engaging and cohesive programme .This time delivering to 11-16s and o

Why it's a great idea:
The feedback that we recieved after our summer on the Norland Green space last year was outstanding. Residents spoke of joy of a project that enabled them to use the green and get to know their neighbours, breaking down cultural stereotypes and providing the community particularly the local youth with 4 days of activities & engagement. The fusion with wellbeing creates opportunities for community to access non statutory support . They are also mostly working artists and competent sports practitioners who have offered their skill sets to the project over the summer months.We are focusing on sports ,health fitness and circus arts this summer and can fast track young people into art therapy, counselling as well as sign post them to other opportunites and or youth services across H&F and K&C. Steps to get it done:
For this project we will partner with Let Me Play who are an organisation that work pan london to engage hard to reach groups in education and leisure . Let me play deliver free activities across H&F to 11-16s every summer and will be delivering sports and other activities such as mass zumba and fashion arts along side us on this project. KOTG will target the same age demographic with activities that specifically reach out to youth of this age. We are also partnering with the Urban Arts foundation who will be bringing their arts bus to the Norland Green every tuesday afternoon to deliver music projects alongside our many other planned activities such as aerial circus , dance . lyric and verse ,and health and fitness KOTG practitoners are chosen for their individual expertise in various areas. This summer as we target 11-16s we have staff specialising in hard to reach youth engagement , music ,sport& dance . We are able to sign post and fst track into art therapy and counselling also

VolunteerKids on the Green was originally set up as an emergency response project after the Grenfell Tower fire. The organisation delivered play , arts and health and wellbeing activities throughout the summer on the Norland Green open space and engaged the whole family group as well as catering for 11-16s who came alone. This summer KOTG would like to return to the Norland Green open space , this time primarily focusing on engaging 11-16s with sports and arts activities.
KOTG is centered in wellbeing and understands that the mental health and wellbeing of the majority of the community in the area is poor and at best at risk due to general socio-economic deprivation in the area but also as a result of the fire on June 14th that traumatised an entire neighbourhood. The demographic of 11-16 is traditionally hard to engage and many young people locally feel that they have been overlooked . All of the KOTG staff have been trained in mental health first aid and we are also partnering with Latimer Community Art therapy and Grief encounter so we are able to make direct fast tracked referals for young people who wish to recieve support. This is vital to our organisation and enables our young service users to skip long waiting lists with more traditional statatoury means of accessing counselling and therapy. KOTG also delivers activites for families just a short five minute walk from the Norland Green open space on Blossom Dale and this location is more suited to family groups and younger children. Here parents can also access well being therapies such as massage, reiki ,kineisiology homeopathy. These wellbeing services ( apart from massage ) are also available for 11-16s should they wish to come to blossom dale and access them. In addition KOTG will shortly have an indoor venue that can be accessed by 11-16s.
KOTG is partnering with Let Me Play on the Norland Green open space this summer. Together we plan to deliver activities such as dance, circus skills, multi sports and arts on several dates through July and weekdays in August. Young people will hopefully progress to joining some of KOTG arts groups such as Drama and Music and carnival arts, be invited on trips (thursdays) and be refered should they need it into therapy.
KOTG is seeking funding to deliver activities on the Norland Green open space, to pay 3 staff members , cover equipments and refreshments.
Project Owner: Kids On The Green The Project Owner takes legal responsibility for receiving and spending the funds raised and ensuring the project is delivered.
