Arts, culture & heritage

This project has given arts and cultural opportunities for communities who may otherwise have challenges accessing provision. Our highly skilled and experienced practitioners have created exciting artistic and creative dance activities that are relevant and appropriate for Keep Wyre Grooving groups. We have enabled our groups to connect to wider provision working in partnership with Healthier Fleetwood. This includes Creative Voice events. This project has enabled us to secure further funding for the continuation of Fleetwood Fusion and Fleetwood Moves Dance Festival on August the 3rd which will further develop arts andd culture provision for people in Wyre.

Dance is a social, creative and physical activity that supports physical and mental health. All our activity has helped promote activity and health.

We believe in the transformational power of dance to support social change. Our practice promotes an inclusive ethos that provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience the power of dance.

LPM Dance is an artist-led, not-for-profit organisation with charitable aims. The organisation is led by artists George Adams and Helen Gould. 11 years ago our initial ambition was to create new and exciting dance experiences for people who may otherwise not have the opportunity to engage in dance in Lancashire. We are still just as passionate about co-collaborating with communities to create meaningful projects that use the power of dance to benefit local people. Whether this is through performance, participation, or both.

Research shows dance can support a wide range of health conditions by improving symptoms and supporting general well-being. Our expertise in health and well-being practice informs many of our projects. We have specialist training in dance & Parkinson's, dance & dementia and dance & movement psychotherapy.

We recognise the importance of social interaction, physical exercise, touch and self-expression to support wellbeing. Lockdown, therefore, had a profound impact on the health of many communities, not least those who were socially isolated due to long-term health conditions and disabilities. During the easing of lockdown we worked to establish Dance and Health Hubs in Lancashire to support these communities, developing specialist activities for those most in need. Our flagship Dance and Health Hub in Wyre was launched with a dance and music festival in Fleetwood in July 2021. This celebratory event was one of the first post-lockdown opportunities to bring people together and initiated the development of our regular classes and workshops for those living with long-term health conditions and disabilities. Working with communities in Fleetwood and surrounding areas in Wyre we have built relevant and meaningful activities. We have worked hard to sustain these sessions and there is an increasing demand for our services. This funding will enable us to continue to work with our communities in Wyre.
