The idea
We are a group of people from a deprived area in Speke who run a Majorette Troupe. We provide weekly dancing sessions and competitions open to children from the local area. We have 45 kids, ages range from 3-18 enrolled of all abilities, some who have mental health issues. We would like to apply for funding to hold a Competition Fun Day in Speke to recruit more kids and raise funds for the future of the Troupe. We need Hall Hire, food, drinks, decorations, goods for stalls and other activities. With the funds we make from this day we then hope to be able to buy Uniforms, Batons and Trophies aswell as Hall and Bus Hire for the 21/22 season. We have been restricted on how we can fundraise due to Covid so without fundraising it may mean that we will be unable to function financially. This means without our care and engagement our children may break long lasting friendships and more importantly be on the streets potentially causing anti social behaviour and turning to crime due to boredom.
What we'll deliver
- Provide a safe happy place
- Visit places in the UK for competitions
- Keep kids off the streets and out of trouble
Why it's a great idea
We encourage kids to be active, develop healthy habits, discipline and routine. We provide a way for families to forge friendships and offer particular support for those kids with special needs who struggle in school or find it difficult to make friends to become a part of a larger family while support and nurture them. It is paramount to keep children in Speke in these type of fun active groups as this is such a deprived area and very little to keep kids off the streets and engaged. We feel proud that we are preventing this group and hopefully many more who we hope will join us from getting into trouble in the local and wider areas. We take he children to many parts of the UK each week aswell as a weekend in Wales at the end of the season. For some of our children this is the only holiday they will have. We feel that this in itself provides a level of education and nurtures their development.
Steps to get it done
- We will begin to buy goods and book activities for the competition throughout the coming months to prepare for April 21
Any funding you are able to offer will make a massive difference to us as a group and our children. We love our Mersebeat family and despite the awful year this far with Covid and isolation preventkng us being together we look forward to next year and bouncing back to smash our dancing competitions and bring home as many trophies as we can.
