The Mayfair Community Choir has been singing up for the local community since 2013. Everyone is welcome to join us, whether new to singing or experienced. There are no auditions and no fees. All we ask is that you come along and enjoy. In normal times the choir meets every Tuesday in term time in person in Mayfair, and hosts three concerts a year. Since March 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic we have met online through Zoom at the same time (Tuesdays, 6.30pm). We refuse to be beaten and are now working on recordings of our songs to share with others. While there is nothing better than singing together in person, and we can't wait to do that again, it is still wonderful to see all those friendly faces online and to share singing together. The choir has received very generous support since it began, from Westminster City Council, the Hyde Park Place Estate Charity, Grosvenor, the Living Communities Fund and the scores of friends who have attended our concerts. The wonderful Richard Hobson, organist and accomplished choir master, lead us for six years before handing over to our current Director of Music, Daniel Collins. Daniel is a fabulous musician, singing with the reknowned choral group The Sixteen. His musical knowledge and enthusiasm directed us to a hugely successful concert at the Mayfair Library in December 2019 and have kept us going through the pandemic. The choir sings a mix of music: classical choral pieces, folk songs, the best of musical theatre and modern pop. We aim to provide something musical for everyone and to bring the joy of singing to as many people as possible, whether they be singers or listeners.
