Our project aims to encourage as many people as possible, people new to us or already part of our choir community, to join us in singing through the pandemic and into better times when we can all meet and sing in person together. We will do this by providing technology that will enable would-be singers to enjoy our rehearsals online. This will be equipment such as ethernet adaptors, internet signal boosters and headphones; items that will improve the online experience for those finding it difficult to listen in and take part. Our project aims also to secure support for weekly Tuesday night one-and-a-half hour rehearsals through to Summer 2021.

What we'll deliver:

  • Provide 12 one-and-a-half hour singing sessions, open to anyone who lives in. works in or enjoys Mayfair
  • Supply three ethernet/USB connectors to singers who need them to attend online
  • Supply three internet signal boosters to singers who need them to attend online
  • Supply three headphone sets to singers who need them to attend online

Why it's a great idea:

Singing is solace for the soul. It is well recognized that singing can improve mood and feelings of well-being. Singing with others has even more benefits. In these difficult and often lonely times we want to do all we can to maintain a sense of community in Mayfair, make new connections and maintain the friendships that we already have through the community choir. We hope to reduce the feelings of isolation many of us are currently confronting. While we are unable to meet as a choir in person our online sessions are the next best thing and offer an important link with others. This term our concert will be virtual - we will create a recording of beautiful songs to celebrate the winter season, something we can take pride in and can share with others. Enabling more singers to take part will benefit each of them as well as the whole choir and give us something to share with others in the local community. Securing more singing sessions will help us take all these benefits into the future.

Steps to get it done:

  • Purchase of equipment that will help singers attend online
  • Distribution of equipment that will help singers attend online
  • Host 12 one and a half hour singing sessions

People from all walks of life belong to the Mayfair Community Choir. It is free to take part and there is no need to know how to read music or already be a singer. We were established by the Friends of the Mayfair Library to develop friendship and community in the area. Whether you work in Mayfair, live there, or just enjoy being there, the choir is there for you.
