Theatre in the Quarter (TIQ), based in Cheshire, is far more than an arts organisation. Recognised with community awards on both local and national level, TIQ has dedicated he past 15 yeas to empowering communities by giving them a voice, raising self esteem, greatly improving well being, reducing isolation and fostering a deeper understanding of marginalised people. TIQ has at its core a small but highly skilled team of professionals who have found imaginative ways to engage hundreds, sometimes thousands of people in telling their important stories; in 2014 communities across Cheshire and the North West marked the centenary of the departure of men and women to the Western Front in a performance based project staged at railway stations. Remarkable stories of courage and bravery during both world wars have been brought to life through TIQs work in Chester, Preston, Warrington, Salford and beyond. In 2012, three thousand people gathered to mark the beginning of the London Olympic Year with a courageous performance by 800 people of all ages and abilities at Chester’s Roman Amphitheatre. Leading up to and during the coronavirus pandemic, TIQ has created film work with and for marginalised communities, finding ways to tell stories behind the media headlines, stories of people with disabilities, the LGBT community and people who have escaped war torn countries and are seeking asylum.
