More about our impact
The environment
It has brought more people to the park who otherwise wouldn't have gone - as there wasn't sufficient for disabled children to play on.
The local economy
Local companies that contributed have received publicity and PR; with more families visiting the park local shops and cafesbenefit.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Our volunteers committed many hours during the project and at delivery stage.
Activity, health and leisure
A new wheelchair roundabout enables disabled children to actively participate in playground activities that previously they have been excluded from. Social interaction in the fresh air is vital for children to develop and improve their social skills with peers, in addition to encouraging other children to engage in playtime activities with children less physically able. Doncaster Council is currently running a campaign to get people out into the fresh air and is encouraging exercise: The communities surrounding the park fall into the 10% most deprived areas in the country and research has shown that child obesity is on the increase, particularly in deprived areas. Our project will complement the campaign to get youngsters active. Since it came into use, siblings and carers have had to exercise - pushing the roundabout (there's a scooter as part of it)! As they attend the park for the roundabout, other play areas are utilised too.
