I am delighted to announce the ‘Ellesmere Port Football Memories’ book has now been published and will be available for sale at the National Waterways Museum from Sunday 24 May 2026, after 2:30 p.m. following its launch event. Little Sutton born Ian Bowyer, two-time European Cup Winner with Nottingham Forest in the 1970s, will be launching and signing the books at a day when the Museum is celebrating 140 years of local football with some themed activities alongside their amazing collection of inland waterways exhibits. A further incentive to attend this launch is a 10% reduction in the entry costs if you attend in football gear (no studs)! The Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. See their website for further details Events at Ellesmere Port Boat Museum | Canal & River Trust This limited edition of books is down to your generosity along with that of our local Councillors, and with the kind support of Vauxhall Motors FC who facilitated it. It records the Town’s football history, lists 90 of our professional players and, as there is so much more information to come, precedes a website dedicated to the Town’s sport (shortly to be compiled). This 140-page book will be on sale in the shop at the National Waterways Museum (Junction 9 off the M53 motorway/CH65 4FW) from Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May. Further copies are available via an email request to [email protected] @ £10 plus any postage and package costs.
We have sufficient in the kitty to print around 400 books. I anticipate they will sell out fairly quickly. We may be able to print more in due course if we get additional funding. We have already put a bid into Awards for All. In addition, if you wish to add more to your original pledge, which was so gratefully received, please get in touch with me at [email protected] (preferred) or 07590 369253. All the monies received will be ploughed back into printing more books. The more the merrier! The answer to the above is that I am having to update the text and images as several people have given me good information right at the last minute - it will improve the book a treat. However any more information from now on will be put on a new, dedicated website for Ellesmere Port Football Memories will be set up in due course. Finally, do you know anything about the image above? Very best wishes, Celia Webber
