Connecting people, ideas, and support from the crowd to make Leicester an even better place!
By Daljit Ghai
There are over 8 million people in the UK that are experiencing food poverty of some kind. We are supporting residents of Leicestershire by providing free meal, sandwiches and essential items
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Hope For Hunger is open to everybody and our meals are delivered and packed similar to a takeaway, with no imaging to suggest they are from a charitable organisation. A selection of meals are available to be requested, including certain essential items and delivered to a place of their choosing. Meals are delivered within 24 hours of them being requested, anywhere in the county and same day deliveries are made if the order is placed before 9:30am. An initial pilot was then carried out for a 2 week period, in which we delivered over 100 meals to residents of the community, within the LE5 postcode. This number has now sky rocketed to 750+ meals and over 1000 essential items in a short period of time, across all LE postcodes. We have continued providing the service due to the demand and need by end users. The pilot was funded by a fundraising campaign and we would now like to build on our learning and run the service on a wider scale, with further funding needed to support this.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The service will benefit all members of the community, those visually suffering from poverty and also those who are struggling behind closed doors. The service will also hopefully reduce the potential suffering of mental health issues arising from the stress of food poverty. Meals are delivered within 24 hours of them being requested, anywhere in the county and same day deliveries are made if the order is placed before 9:30am. The project is one which was always in mind but heightened in the pandemic. Conversations took place with local residents (via local parishes) who had suffered significantly financially and had gone from being comfortable to living day by day. A number of these were and are still suffering in silence, in the hope that things will get better. The impact has caused many to sacrifice nutritional meals, to pay bills. A choice we feel they should not need to make. The project will help us to put in place the infrastructure, to scale up the support we can offer
Steps to get it done:
You can find out much more about us and what we are doing via our social media accounts. They can all be accessed via our linktree https://linktr.ee/Hopeforhunger Please note that this project, while funding our meals, is also critical in us being able to finance and put in place the necessary needed within the charity, to scale up and increase the number of end users we can support
