The idea
We want to cover the cost of the rent for an initial twelve months, and the cost of a portable appliance tester (PAT) and course. After 12 months we expect the project to be able to support itself by donations for successfully repaired items
What we'll deliver
- We want to reduce the amount of items sent to landfill
- We want to encourage people to gain the skills necessary to undertake their own repairs
- we want to encourage older skilled tradespeople to get involved in a community project
Why it's a great idea
The nearest Repair Cafe is in Huddersfield, and they can only offer repairs on selected items as they are in the indoor market, where there are existing commercial repairers. We would be able to help local people with repairs on a wide range of goods including textile items
Holmfirth Tech is a busy centre for community activities including, art and music groups, and attracts many families on Saturdays. We also believe there are a number of retired people with skills they would enjoy sharing as ‘fixers’
