The environment

The environment

The Festival was held in our public park and we ensured that there were extra littler bins. There was no litter at all on the site throughout the festival as it was all disposed of properly.

The local economy

The local economy

The impact on the local economy of last year's festival was huge. Due to the complications, covenants and cost of having food or drink on the Sele we provided a local food map of the town, which is very close to the park. This took people into the town and the feedback from local shops, even shops that did not sell obviously related goods, was overwhelmingly positive. Cafes were full and local venues that hosted bands were full. One pub ran out of food and beer. The local convenience store trebled its takings. Even if people brought picnics to the park they still spent money in the town We will be replicating this model this year. Hexham town centre is so compact that it is no hardship for people to leave the open access site and visit businesses.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

Key Change, a local youth music initiative helped last year as part of their training in Festival organization and management and subsequently organized their own, hugely successful, FIND festival on the same site in September 2023. We had local town volunteers and we were helped by a graduate music technology student who has since been volunteering at Core Music. All the organisers are volunteers and we were helped by the local Bluegrass group and members. We had 22 volunteers.
