Friends of Burley Park – how you can help them get one more sign

West Leeds Dispatches

“We would love to be able to have another entrance sign at the Cardigan Lane end of Park View Road by the Rose Garden, signs were never put in on Park View Road when the other four went up 15 years ago.”

The environment

The environment

The project is encouraging more people to use our park and to join in the volunteering and activities. Gradually the Friends is broadening its membership

The local economy

The local economy

A popular local park that is seen as a good and safe place to visit makes this a better place to live, people take their recreation locally more often.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

Friends of Burley Park has gained new volunteers and new committee members. Our ability to look after features (flowers, trees, meadows, collect litter) and run events is dependent on willing people coming forward to help and replace those who move on.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

The friends ran their first Easter event this year and have discussed other ideas such as wassail and have set up the music in the Park for the 125th anniversary. If you like music and wish to see this repeated then please offer to help.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

More volunteers means we can continue to run two weekly (Monday and Tuesday 10 -12) and monthly Sunday 10-12 volunteering. there has bene lots of park user feedback about how things are looking better - we think the level of regular usage grow during Covid and has continued to grow. There are always people in the Park in daylight hours. Neither Parks dept or ourselves have any numerical figure on Park usage.
