Friends of Burley Park was set up in about 2014 and planted the two orchard area in the Park. We are a growing group of local residents who are working with Leeds Parks to add and maintain more flowers and trees. The group is open to anyone who uses the Park.
Until 2022 activity was limited to some smal scale maintainance of the orchards. In early 2023 the group lead on the desaign of the new seating area and cherry grove by the playground, that was implemented by Love Leeds Parks using funding from the National Trust Blossom project.
There are sessions most Monday and Tuesday mornings to maintain our flower beds by the Cardigan Lane entrance and regular monthly Sunday morning session that work across the Park.
Active volunteering has expanded this year, the Committee has gained new members this year, a further grant has been obtained for bulb planting and we are planning a small series of events to celebrate the 125th anniversry of the Park's formal opening on September 8th 1900.
Please get in touch to find out more. We welcome help at the outdoor sessions and also with the fundrasing, publiciy and other "behind the scenes" things that have to be done.
