Fylde Coast Mates group is a not for profit CIC and has been operational for over 2 years. The Fylde Coast Mates group was originally a subsidiary to the Just Good Friends - Social Angels Project for autistic young people of which Carol Gradwell was appointed Chair and Project lead during Covid19.
Although the Social Angels Project ran successfully with online meetups during Covid19 it soon became clear post Covid19 that many of the original young members would not be returning to the group due to other commitments. As a result it was decided to open the group to 18+ autistic/socially anxious people and as a result the Fylde Coast Mates group was established. Fylde Coast Mates recognises that there is a growing need for such support within the Fylde Coast Community.
The main objective of the Fylde Coast Mates group is to provide activities, meetups and support for people 18+, and their families, who are on the autistic spectrum or have other learning/social difficulties. Family funding for 18+ individuals is limited. It is very costly for families to provide support, particularly during the current cost of living crisis.
