The main objectives of the group is to provide vital support to some of the most vulnerable and isolated people and their families within the Fylde Coast. There is an enormous gap within the Fylde Coast community to provide support for young vulnerable individuals, particularly older 18+ individuals, with social and learning difficulties outside of the family environment. As family funding for 18+ individuals is limited, it is very costly for families to provide support during the current cost of living crisis. The project is very much young person led; is also looking to establish a parent/carer peer support forum. The future sustainability/long term strategy of the group will be developed by the young people and parent/carer forum. We would like to pay for confidence building, skill enhancing and sporting events for our group of autistic/socially anxious members. Such activities include cookery, team building activities, visiting museums and AFC Fylde multi-sports sessions.

What we'll deliver:

  • Take the group to Lancaster Castle
  • Arrange cookery sessions to encourage healthy eating
  • Arrange team building and sporting activities
  • Take the group to see glass blowing at Glasform

Why it's a great idea:

By building the members self confidence, they will find it easier to integrate into society and have more of a positive outlook on life subsequently easing the strain on mental health services. The activities will enable the young individuals to come together in a happy and safe environment where they can relax, learn to enjoy each others company and help to empower one another to integrate into the wider community. To grow in confidence as they socialise together, work together as a team and learn to interact with volunteers and parents. Learn to understand the involvement of social prescribers and other signposting agencies with a view to improving their health and wellbeing. Establish group cohesion as the young individuals become socially confident and their anxiety levels subside.

Steps to get it done:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Increased self confidence
  • Improved social integration
  • Developing group cohesion
  • Growing social confidence within wider Community
