More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

There are problems with anti-social behaviour in the park including fires in the large wooded areas! We sincerely hope it reduces the amount of fires to help sustain the woods and trees within going forward.

The local economy

The local economy

As the BMX Track and the wider park are now safer for users across the whole of each day, it is expected that bringing more people into the town to use the facility will also help boost the local economy.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

Protecting our facility and giving people a safer space to enjoy BMX Racing, even in their own time, helps keep people in the sport, which has the knock-on effects of bringing more people to our activities, which includes volunteering for litter picks during coaching sessions or dedicated maintenance days.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

The facility is built into the side of an old slag heap in a former mining community. Gallagher Park is a beautiful space to be enjoyed by everyone and whilst the track creates a positive legacy, utilising part of the old heap, the CCTV helps many users of the park feel more comfortable using the park at different times of each day.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Building public confidence and creating a facility that people are happier to use at all times of the day has the knock-on effects of improving fitness, mental health and reducing boredom which without the facility to use for leisure and activities could otherwise lead to more anti-social behaviour or crime in the town.
