The idea
This year, on November the 23rd, we would like to provide an outlet for local businesses to promote their products and services, allow charitable organisations to connect and fundraise with local residents. Children from local schools will perform carol songs and we will showcase a variety of local musical talent. Families will be entertained by a traditional children’s entertainer on stills, juggling, balloon modelling and there will be an interactive show for children. There will be an arts and crafts tent for children to make Christmas presents. Our Town Cryer does not have any clothes so we would like to buy him a traditional Victorian costume.
What we'll deliver
- Purchase a costume for our Town Cryer
- • Identify volunteers for future events.
- • Invite local school choirs to perform.
- • Invite local talented musicians to perform
- • Provide an opportunity for local businesses to promote and showcase their products and services.
- • Provide an outlet for local charities to connect, fundraise and inform residents of their services.
- • Provide free entertainment and activities throughout the day for all the family.
Why it's a great idea
The event will encourage residents to come together and celebrate the amazing town we live in. It will also encourage residents to shop locally, highlight charitable organisations who may be able to help them, family or friends. Allow the community to come together in a fun and inexpensive gathering. The event will promote community spirit and allow us to capture volunteers for future events. Our Town Cryer will be able to attend local events throughout the year with a formal costume.
Steps to get it done
- • Apply to the local council for a road closure and licence.
- • Contact businesses, organisations and schools and invite them to participate in the event.
- • Design and print marketing material and use social media to promote the event.
- • Identify a volunteer Event Co-ordinator.
- • Work with a team of volunteers to implement the logistics of the event.
Our main goal is to develop local community spirit. The event will allow family and friends to come together for an enjoyable community event. It will encourage residents to review what local businesses and charities have to offer and promote the need to work together to develop and regenerate our town.
