Grozone - grow more community food

Grozone is a large community garden in Northwich. We are raising money to ensure we can grow as much food as possible onsite to distribute free of charge to local people that are most in need.

The idea

At Grozone we support people of all abilities and involve them in the process of community food growing and wildlife gardening. We are located in the centre of Northwich and are looking to increase the amount of food we grow on site. This will help tackle climate change and will directly help people most in need by providing free food to those who may be choosing between heating or eating.

Our volunteer sessions run three days per week and involve people of all ages helping us to manage the gardens. Roughly 150 people attend Grozone each year as volunteers helping us to keep this beautiful urban garden open all year round.

Within the winter months we hold art sessions, music workshops and wildlife gardening to care for creatures great and small that come to Grozone. We also help to look after the local rivers with our 'Love My River' volunteer team completing clean up days and environmental improvement projects.

What we'll deliver

  • Grow and distribute more food to local people
  • Involve more volunteers in the process of community food growing
  • Increase biodiversity and create nature benefits across the town

Why it's a great idea

Grozone is a welcoming space built to improve personal wellbeing. We involve people of all abilities in environmental social action in the heart of Northwich. We grow a large volume of food that is shared with volunteers and distributed via other partners to individuals that are most in need.

Grozone is free to access to volunteers all year round. You can learn new skills, meet new people, or just simply enjoy being outdoors in a calming green space.

Our project helps individuals to develop skills, improves physical activity and enhances mental wellbeing through nature connectedness. We take steps to tackle climate change by growing and distributing organic food locally and engage people in direct action on nature-based improvements.

We deliver environmental education classes to local schools and groups. We work with partners from a range of voluntary and community sector organisations providing a safe place for people to volunteer in a non-judgmental outdoor environment.
