4 years ago a group of parents & teachers began to grow our dream of starting a school that would inspire a love of learning with each child's wellbeing at its heart. A school that would nurture curious, compassionate, critical thinkers, ready to meet the challenges & opportunities within our changing world. Being rooted within the local community and sharing our site is at the heart of our ambitions. We run parent & toddler groups, craft making workshops, yoga & wellbeing events and also work with a group of volunteers who help us care for the land. We need a warm space for winter to allow us to continue to expand the opportunities that we can offer the wider community and are asking for your help to buy a Yurt.

What we'll deliver:

  • A 29ft Yurt that will provide us with the space to grow our dreams

Why it's a great idea:

A Yurt would allow us to continue to deliver and grow our dreams to become an important hub within the local community. Older Volunteers: Our landcare team work with a group of older volunteers and those who were at risk of social isolation within the community. New skills are learned, healthy food grown, cross generational respect developed and self esteem reestablished. Parent & Toddler: Many young children have only experienced life with Covid restrictions and are struggling to engage socially with others. Our groups provide a gentle and natural environment for children, and a space for parents to develop networks of support. Wider Community Engagement: Traditional craft making workshops, repair cafes, clothes swaps and talks bring the wider community together in a supportive environment at a time when Covid has caused a huge amount of social anxiety. A Yurt would also allow us to run weekend & holiday clubs for children - connecting them with nature, ecology and wildlife.

Steps to get it done:

  • Building the base
  • Erecting the Yurt
  • A weekend of wellbeing, craft and gardening activities to celebrate the new space

The Benefits of a Yurt One of the benefits of a Yurt is that it is a space that is particularly safe within the current environment. The ceiling is high which increases the capacity for fresh air. The walls can also be rolled back creating a held space with extremely good ventilation. Extending our current offer: With this yurt we will also be able to extend our offer to include a monthly Red Tent. The Red Tent is a gathering of women that occurs at the new moon when girls & women are most in need of support, rest & reflection. This is a timeless tradition observed by ancient cultures which serves as a regular forum for empowering women’s sense of selfhood. We will also be able to offer a space for an antenatal support group. A safe space for stretching, breathing and finding support.
