We are Stratford Village Neighbourhood Group - a gathering of local residents in the London postcodes of E15, in particular the streets surrounding Stratford Park, up to Romford Road.
Stratford Village Neighborhood is an extremely diverse community, including long term residents and recent arrivals, and a multitude of cultural heritage represented. A stone’s throw from the hustle of Stratford Centre, the quiet streets have deteriorated in the last decade, with increased through-traffic, regular fly-tipping, abandoned green spaces, and growing anti-social behaviour. This community group formed to respond to the challenges of our area, bringing together enthusiastic neighbours keen to improve their streets. Since April 2020, we have been working together to improve our streets to make them healthier, livelier, more inclusive and welcome spaces for everyone. Spurred by a first lockdown due to COVID-19 in Spring 2020, we started improving our mini green spaces with our own means, ad-hoc planting and clearing.
Our aim is to improve the neighbourhood for the health and well-being of local residents, and to create an area that is attractive and safe for all, including visitors, pedestrians and cyclists. We hope that our projects will bring positive changes to the spaces, as well as encourage neighbourly interactions strengthening the local support networks and connecting people in enriching ways.
We are currently actively led by a group of 10 people, and involve over 30 people in our activities. We intend to grow this to over 100 local people engaged with the project in some form.
