More about our impact
The environment
The first five months of 2026 have already demonstrated strong local engagement and growing momentum: • 400+ people engaged through the water campaign and the Residents’ Pledge for a Greener H&F. • 230+ people attended physical events, including screenings, walks, workshops, farm visits and citizen science activities. • 10+ volunteers supported community events and local climate action. • 200+ members joined the H&F Climate Community WhatsApp group. • 5,000+ followers reached across The Green Londoner’s channels, helping amplify local climate action across London. These figures show clear demand for a local Green Action Hub in Hammersmith & Fulham: a space to connect residents, support practical action and give greater visibility to environmental initiatives across the borough.
The local economy
Supporting the Local Economy Alongside its environmental and community benefits, the project has contributed to the local economy by supporting local venues, organisations, facilitators and independent practitioners. Events and activities were delivered in partnership with local community groups, charities and organisations, helping to attract residents to local venues and create opportunities for collaboration. Workshops, guided walks and educational activities also provided opportunities for local experts, facilitators and volunteers to share skills and engage with the community. The project has strengthened connections between residents, community organisations and local institutions, helping to build the social infrastructure that underpins thriving local economies. By promoting local events, volunteering opportunities and environmental initiatives through The Green Londoner and the H&F Climate Community network, the project has also increased visibility for local organisations and encouraged greater participation in community life. As The Green Londoner continues to grow, the project is creating opportunities for future partnerships, events, training activities and community-led initiatives that can generate additional social and economic value within Hammersmith & Fulham.
Volunteering, jobs & education
The project has contributed to volunteering, education and skills development across Hammersmith & Fulham by creating new opportunities for residents to learn, engage and take action on environmental issues. More than 10 volunteers have supported events, campaigns and community activities, helping to build local capacity for climate action while gaining valuable experience in community engagement, event delivery and environmental advocacy. Education has been a core focus of the project. Through workshops, guided walks, citizen science activities, farm visits, forest school sessions, film screenings and expert interviews, residents of all ages have been able to learn about biodiversity, water quality, climate resilience, air pollution and sustainable living in an accessible and engaging way. The project has also increased access to environmental education outside traditional settings. Activities such as water testing and nature-based events have enabled residents to develop practical skills while fostering a stronger connection with their local environment. In addition, The Green Londoner has continued to provide learning opportunities through its content, including a "10-Point Plan for Taking Climate Action Locally", podcasts and interviews with leading experts and policymakers. These resources help residents better understand environmental challenges and identify practical ways to contribute to solutions. By building a growing network through the H&F Climate Community WhatsApp group, the project has also created new pathways for volunteering, participation and peer-to-peer learning, helping residents stay informed about opportunities to get involved locally.
Arts, culture & heritage
The project helped residents engage with local culture, heritage and the natural environment through a range of creative and educational activities. Guided walks along the Thames and in local green spaces encouraged participants to explore the environmental history of Hammersmith & Fulham and neighbouring boroughs, highlighting the connections between London’s landscapes, communities and heritage. These activities helped residents develop a deeper appreciation of local places and their role in shaping the borough’s identity. The project also used storytelling, film and public discussion as tools for engagement. The screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing documentary created opportunities for residents to reflect on contemporary environmental challenges while connecting them to the future of their local communities. Workshops and nature-based activities, including forest school sessions and visits to community farms, encouraged residents and families to reconnect with traditional skills, local food systems and the natural heritage of London. Through The Green Londoner’s content, events and community outreach, the project has promoted a culture of environmental stewardship and civic participation, helping residents see their local environment not only as a place to live, but as an important part of the borough’s shared heritage and future.
Activity, health and leisure
The project promoted physical activity, health and wellbeing by creating accessible opportunities for residents to spend time outdoors, connect with nature and engage with their local community. More than 230 people participated in activities including guided walks, nature visits, workshops, community events and citizen science sessions. These activities encouraged residents to be physically active, explore local green and blue spaces, and spend time outdoors in a social and supportive environment. Guided walks along the Thames and in local parks promoted walking as a healthy, low-carbon form of exercise while helping participants discover the biodiversity, history and environmental significance of their local area. Nature-based activities such as the Forest School session and the visit to CNC Ealing Farm enabled families and residents to reconnect with nature, which is increasingly recognised as beneficial for both physical and mental wellbeing. The project also supported healthier lifestyles through practical workshops, including sessions on herbal teas and fermented foods, helping participants learn about nutrition, wellbeing and sustainable living. In addition, content produced by The Green Londoner, including expert interviews on air quality and public health, helped raise awareness of the links between environmental quality, health and quality of life. By bringing people together around positive, practical and community-focused activities, the project has helped reduce isolation, strengthen social connections and encourage healthier and more active lifestyles across Hammersmith & Fulham.
