The Academy is out to produce a short about the racial riots in Southall, that took place in 1979 respectively.
In 1979 a group of people from the National Front held a meeting, propagating hatred against the South Asian Communities of Southall. This was protested by a large majority, while the members were protected by the police. The riots led to a few injuries and brought in a bad reputation for Southall.
Through this project we want to deliver a culturally rich story, promoting diversity in the region and also creating a platform for youths to hone their skills in media and arts.
The subject is still a highly emotive one both among residents and those who took part, whether protestors or police officers. Our volunteer team has spoken with a few eyewitnesses peoples, who had seen their eyes.
They still believe that true reflections of the incident are still hidden from the public and it is necessary to share Southall's story from rising from riots to harmony and peace
