More about our impact
The local economy
The Give...A Few Words #Letters for Christmas Roadshow saw 6 Red post boxes appearing in a variety of settings all across our community. These included 4 local schools, one 6th form college, one Doctors surgery, One supermarket, and one charity. Christmas Cards and Stationery were purchased alongside increasing footfall in these locations as people dropped off their cards. Bespoke letterheads (designed by a University of Huddersfield student) and Booklets (designed by local graphic designer) were printed using local suppliers. Christmas Cards were all purchased from various local charity shops. Delivered One Letter Writing Workshop
Volunteering, jobs & education
168 Regular and Over 100 new volunteers signed up for the Christmas Campaign. Over 600 local students were involved from 4 local Schools, College, NCS and University students also. This project was run entirely on volunteer time. From writers, artists, designers, IT.... It was a role that anyone could participate in and where whole school communities got involved. Lots of families decided to write and draw together and in some circumstances 3 generations were all writing to one person together. One local business became involved as an employee volunteering scheme and 35 people from different UK sites volunteered their time.
Arts, culture & heritage
People have researched a variety of interests such as dancing, art, sport, music, poetry, photography, and many other things. The Christmas booklet featured original poetry, photography, artwork and contributions from many. This is a volunteering role which is accessible to all. One Volunteer Letter Writing Workshop was delivered "Writing Letters that Connect" by an established author.
Activity, health and leisure
People were able to walk to their local post boxes to post cards and letters. If people were writing to someone interested in walking or nature, they would sometimes explore where they lived and take photos in their local greenspace. Volunteers also wrote about many sporting achievements.
