‘Girls that Brunch’ is a safe space for young girls can meet on a Saturday. Teach cooking, painting, health skills and more. Gives girls a platform, ensuring healthier, happier and more connected.
The Women of Whitworth Project is excited to be launching ‘Girls that Brunch’ on Saturdays at The Ashcroft. We need your support to transform the space into a safe space where girls can cook, learn about health and wellbeing. A place that they can learn from each other and feel supported by fully trained individuals - a real long term safe space. Since 2018, The Women of Whitworth Project has been supporting females, girls and families on a number of health, wellbeing and awareness initiatives, assisting with signposting, support, guidance and advice. We are a safe space between local females and young girls, building stronger and more safe feeling community, through events, meet ups and awareness days. From the beginning we have been delivering our monthly meet ups and events for females and young girls in different venues across Whitworth. We have learnt a lot about what works in our events and what we need but it has been expensive and challenging finding venues.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
‘Girls that Brunch’ will allow us to run weekly interactive training programmes for girls 11+ in the community. The volunteers we have will all have safeguarding and female support experience so that they can mentor the girls in the weekly sessions. Our training programme takes them from early teens to adulthood and ensures their views are supported to nourish their minds and help them deal with a range of emotions. Our volunteers will run the weekly sessions for girls to help with female safety, community engagement, awareness female health and healthy eating habits. The cooking classes will ensure that the girls can make cost effective and healthy food choices. The safety sessions will protect them and ensure they are knowledgeable of the support the group can offer. Utilising girls as volunteers when they reach 16 to help with future ‘Girls that Brunch’ events. Arranging art and craft sessions through an enterprising business for ‘Girls that Brunch’ so that we are self sufficient.
Steps to get it done:
Steps to get this work completed * Work with The Ashcroft to ensure that female staff are on hand to maintain the space for during our weekly ‘Girls that Brunch’ * Installation of additional drop down seating for use during our sessions * Provision of cooking materials on a weekly basis delivered at cost * Preparation of essential training and resource materials for the weekly sessions * Volunteers planning session with local provider * Small office space for storage of resources, this will be in the Ashcroft * Sanitary and wellbeing packs for all girls every week * Enterprising starter pack for ‘Girls that Brunch’ business for creating additional funds.
