More about our impact
The environment
We recycle glass, tins, plastic, compost, card and paper, crisp bags, and plastic packaging. We re-distribute food from supermarkets which would have gone to landfill and use compostable takeaway packaging.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We’ve had a number of amazing people volunteer with us. For some, gaining confidence and improving skills has been a stepping stone to work. Others, a place to contribute whilst reflecting on ‘what next’ The ones that remain are invaluable. We have created 4 part-time paid posts.
Arts, culture & heritage
We sell local artists art work/crafts and products on their behalf. Felt-maker and recycled glass jewellery maker, Sara Rudd will be delivering workshops in the cafe this month. Communal Table luncheons have taken place monthly, with a different food theme each time - Middle Eastern, Mexican, British, Italian. We celebrated Eid with a traditional Eid breakfast. We have run community ‘baking friends’ sessions each month where women have improved their skills, enjoyed spending time with other women or ‘me time’ to ‘breathe’ Our cafe provides the space for a local creative writing group.
Activity, health and leisure
We have equipped our kitchen with 8 x cooking/baking stations including electric hobs, pans, utensils, bowls, graters, and other equipment necessary to host community cooking workshops and events. We have bought a new bread oven and commercial mixer.
