The idea
When the local community bought Exeter Street Hall in 2013, it was in a very poor state of repair. It needed a new roof and there were big issues with the electrics and drains. Since then we have set about restoring the hall and making it a venue fit for the 21 century.
Not all members of our community are currently able to enjoy the amazing events offered because the hall does not offer access to those with limited mobility such as wheelchair users. We have sufficient funding to carry out an important refurbishment, including provision of disabled toilets but we also need to provide a safe and accessible entrance. With £1800 we will be able provide a high quality ramp surface and handrail and we have decided to ask our supporters if they would consider donating £10 towards the cost of the installation.
The main image of the ramp and railing is the design we intend to install if we are successful in reaching our target.
What we'll deliver
- Installation of a set of railings alongside the ramp.
- Build a non-slip ramp outside the hall leading to the main entrance.
Why it's a great idea
Our aim is to provide access to the whole community and currently we are unable to do so. We believe that many of our events, such as shows put on as part of Brighton Fringe, would benefit hugely by having better access and facilities.
Steps to get it done
- Accessible entrance to hall completed by end August 2017
