The idea
SHIFTwithin CIC will deliver a CPD certified train-the-trainer programme to Luddenham School, Swale, enabling school staff to embed Family Transitions, a gentle, body-based wellbeing programme for children navigating family change.
Family Transitions offers simple, age-appropriate tools that help children understand how stress & change show up in their bodies, recognise behaviour as communication, and learn practical ways to regulate emotions through skills-based learning.
The pilot will be delivered to school staff through structured CPD training and supported by full facilitator guides, session plans, child workbooks, parent resources & video facilitation materials. This approach ensures the school is equipped to deliver the programme safely and confidently within the school day. Practices are practical & portable, designed to be used in classrooms, playgrounds, at home or during moments of uncertainty. Staff, children & parents gain skills they can carry forward beyond the pilot.
What we'll deliver
- 12 hours of CPD certified training for up to 6 school staff members to deliver Family Transitions
- Programme resources; staff training workbooks, facilitation manuals, resource cards and pupil workbooks
- Parent workshop and information packs
- Guidance & oversight for the school's first implementation of Family Transitions
- Pilot monitoring and evaluation
Why it's a great idea
Children in Swale are increasingly affected by family change and their experiences are linked to stress, emotional dysregulation & behavioural difficulties in school. Research shows high levels of stress directly impact children's ability to concentrate, regulate emotions & learn. The Education Endowment Foundation & Public Health England highlight the strong link between emotional wellbeing, behaviour, attendance & learning outcomes. Many affected children do not meet the threshold for specialist services, leaving schools to respond without sufficient training or resources. "With the increasing need and decreasing budget, it is difficult to support all children's wellbeing." SENCO
Children develop practical, self-regulation skills that support confidence, positive relationships & engagement in learning. Schools gain trained staff with specialist, trauma-informed skills & increased long-term wellbeing capacity, while families benefit from shared language & practical tools.
