More about our impact
The local economy
We worked with 4 external providers (with 4 staff) on the delivery of this project. This has meant they have been able to sustain and develop their businesses and and in turn their livelihoods. We've also sourced materials and resources from local providers.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We employed 7 volunteers during the course of this project. The overall volunteer hours total for the project is 869 (see spreadsheet attached). This equates to around 124 working days based on 7 hour full time days. Most of these volunteers are now working with us on our current project.
Arts, culture & heritage
We sought input from our diverse community in what they want to do, and delivered a varied programme of arts events and showcased the local talent from community participation in our Celebration Event at the end of the project. We invited a local artist/ crafter to lead a workshop and to share their expertise and knowledge about a dying trade ie weaving. We also produced a group piece - a large collage of Sister Dora the renowned Walsall based nurse which we are expecting to able to exhibit long term at Bloxwich Library. Our group learnt about the techniques of certain famous artists. By working in this way we brought pride back and encouraged conversations and connections within the community. People told us that their creativity didn't end in the session - they carried on creative activities in their own time and joined other groups as well.
Activity, health and leisure
Each of our activities were tailored to promote physical activity. BSL sessions included fun active games that got people moving. Qigong and Zumba are physical activities. At least one Qigong session was held outdoors. Residents have told us that our sessions were the only activity participants did in the week, and that they rarely left their homes otherwise.
