We are a community based Co-operative who have taken on a 25yr lease to run a newly-built, strawbale/woodframed building containing a café, public toilets and social/training space in Lordship Rec, a large Tottenham park. We will run it for the benefit of, and with, the local community and park users. We will be providing a social hub for the park, supporting and generating activities useful and enjoyable for all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We will be providing employment, training and volunteering opportunites for local people as well as offering social activities to build a cohesive community within the park and in the neighbourhood, which contains some areas of high deprivation. Our aim is to encourage environmental and ecological awareness and understanding through engaging people in all the educational and recreational aspects of the park environment. We want to encourage healthy eating and growing, sport and accessible education about the park, its wildlife, its plantlife and its history. Through this open engagement, both in the running of the building and in educational outreach work we hope to sustain and maintain the park, keeping it safe from vandalism and anti-social behaviour. The building aims to increase and extend park usage and therefore increase park security and enjoyment for all.
