The idea
Drill Hall Gardens Revitalisation aims to transform a neglected historical site in Chester City Centre into a vibrant, welcoming space for residents and visitors. This community-led project will restore and enhance the garden through essential infrastructure repairs, the addition of seating, railings, and signage, and the introduction of thoughtful ecological features such as native planting, bat/bird boxes, and bug hotels. By blending heritage with nature, the initiative aspires to foster community engagement, promote biodiversity, and create a serene haven that celebrates the area's historical and environmental significance.
What we'll deliver
- Repair crumbling brickwork
- Address uneven paving to create a level surface
- New railings and gate

Steps to get it done
- Site clearance- remove vegetation and waste
- Enabling works- civilisation, repair and making safe- groundwork’s, repair and relaying of paving and brickwork
- Establish signage and boundaries- identifying and communicating the use and community ownership
- Install seating
- Supporting ancillaries- provision of water butt to harvest rainwater as sustainable source and install secure tool shed
- Planting and ecological enhancements- planting low maintenance native species and hedgerow,install bird boxes/bug hotels
- Lighting- installation of sustainable wall mounted solar lights
