Doncaster Deaf Trust provides education and care to children and young people who have a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, including: Deaf/Hearing impaired, Autism Spectrum Conditions, Asperger's Sydrome, Down's syndrome and other genetic and acquired disabilities and learning difficulties. We own and manage a nursery, a school, a college, a children's home and adult employment provision, all of which is loated on a 24 acre campus on the outskirts of Doncaster.
We deliver the national curriculum for children with special educational needs plus British Sign Language and a skills for Life programme. In college we deliver vocational training and qualifications that are closely linked to the jobs market, including: Motor Vehicle Engineering, Horticulture, Hairdressing & Beauty, Sports Coaching, Catering, Joinery, Construction Skills (including Bricklaying, Plastering, Tiling and Plumbing) IT and Business Administration.
We are a residential college, with on-campus accommodation for up to 100 students, who can be referred to us by any local authority in England and Wales.
The Doncaster School for the Deaf started in 1829 and the Trust, which was registered with the Charity Commision in August 2001, grew from this beginning.
We are an independent, non-maintained school and college, as ell as being a charity, which means we only receive payment for the education and care of our children and young people; we don't get any statutory funding and so have to fundraise for all we do.
