Today ! It's been crowdfunded by 291 local people, it's been masterminded by 3 local partners*, it's been tried and tested for 18 months in West Norwood... Now, it's our pleasure to invite you to the Grand Launch Party of Crystal Palace Library of Things! Date: Saturday 5th May (but note we will be open for borrowing from Saturday 21st April) Time: 1-4pm Venue: Upper Norwood Library Hub, 39-41 Westow Hill, London, SE19 1TJ Everyone is welcome – feel free to bring your friends, family, neighbours, colleagues or anyone you think might be interested in Library of Things. Book if you can to give us a sense of numbers, but feel free to drop in during the day :) The Line-up From 1-4pm: The Party! A delectable spread of cakes and finger food A selection of local beers and soft drinks Mini skills stalls with live repairs, ‘Thing Demos’ and more! Free Face-painting A chance to sign up and get your Early Bird Library of Things membership A few extra surprises... At 2pm: Grand Ceremony The cutting of the purple ribbon – with the shears! The Library of Thing is now a Thing ! Thank You ! Come and borrow ! If you've been using the library or passing by, you might have noticed lots of activity at our site in the last couple of weeks. And ta-da ! .....we are very excited to announce that we are open for borrowing in Crystal Palace Library of Things from tomorrow, Saturday. YOUR great support and all the work behind the scenes has finally paid off and we are ready for our soft launch ! Our opening hours tomorrow are 10am - 6pm and we're open all the hours the library is open.: Tuesday 10 am - 6pm, Wednesday 10am - 6pm ,Thursday 10am - 6pm , Friday 10am - 6pm, Saturday 10am - 6pm, Sunday 11am- 5pm Why not come in and be the first to see the new set-up and borrow or reserve your first item ! Some items are already proving popular, with reservations already being made on the pressure washers, carpet cleaners, ice-cream makers, hand-sanders and more - so you might want to get in there quick and reserve things in advance ! Hello pledgers, supporters and soon to be Thing-borrowers ! We have very exciting news ! The Crystal Palace Library of Things that you all supported with your pledges is coming your way. Since the successful crowd-funding campaign where you all played such an important part, we have made a lot of significant progress in the lead up to our launch this April ! The most exciting new development is that the two-way partnership between Upper Norwood Library Hub and Crystal Palace Transition Town has become a three-way partnership, – with the dynamic team from Library of Things coming on board in a major role to co-deliver the services and systems ! We all feel this is a real win-win for the project, with the Library of Things bringing their experience of running the West Norwood project and developing other projects, plus their plans to create a ground-breaking and innovative version of Library of Things in Crystal Palace. Alongside the Transition Town’s strong experience in building local sustainable projects such as the prize-winning Crystal Palace Food Market, and the Library Hub as a vibrant and active location, we think we’re on a winner! This will be the first library in the country to host a Library of Things ! We also really appreciate our support from the Mayor’s Fund For London, Barclays’ Lifeskills Fund, B&Q Sydenham and Martin & Co. Crystal Palace.
