New equipment for Cowfold Community Pool

We are opening the village outdoor heated pool to the community, to use for lessons and recreation.

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The idea

We are currently writing up a new lease agreement with WSCC and we expect it to be completed before the end of this crowdfunding campaign. No funds will be transferred to the project before the lease agreement has been signed and shown to Spacehive.

We are a new charity and though the pool has run for a long time, it is in desperate need of equipment to ensure it stays operational and safe for visitors.

New pool cleaning and safety equipment is required to keep the pool clean and keep our visitors safe. We also need to improve access to the pool, so that it is wheelchair accessible and we would like a hoist to assist entry to the pool.

A new Swimming Pool Vacuum cleaner and lifeguard uniforms are required, as well as a spinal board and other new safety equipment for use in emergencies.

We would like to provide baby & pre-school sessions and swimming lessons including for children with sensory issues and we require specific aquatic toys to engage them in activities.

What we'll deliver

  • We will be able to provide engaging fun swimming lessons for all ages, abilities and needs
  • We will be able to ensure that our Lifeguards have the best equipment to aid them in the event of an emergency
  • We will be able to keep the pool clean, which will avoid unnecessary pool closures.
  • We will be able to allow access to disabled people.

Why it's a great idea

Cowfold Community Pool is an outdoor heated pool, situated in the heart of the rural village of Cowfold. The pool was specifically designed as a 'learn to swim' pool and is shallow enough that it is accessible to all ages and abilities. The pool was lovingly built by local volunteers and has been maintained ever since by people that care deeply about keeping the pool running.
Due to the money required to maintain it, for some years the local Primary School has shouldered the financial burden, but it's identity as a community pool became lost.
We have already seen the benefits the pool can bring to the community, during the summer of 2020 during the COVID pandemic, when we were fortunate enough to be able to open and offer access to individual groups and families under COVID guidelines. People enjoyed visiting and being able to swim for fun, exercise and socialise. The benefits to the entire community for physical and mental health are clear and people want access the pool again!

Steps to get it done

  • Buying chemical supplies
  • Buying a hoist to make the pool accessible for people with disabilities
  • Buying lifesaving equipment
  • Buying aquatic toys and equipment for swimming lessons
  • Buying Pool Hoover

The pool relies upon volunteers to give up their time to help maintain and run the pool. There is an awful lot of work involved in maintaining a clean safe pool environment for people to enjoy.
We also need Lifeguards and need to employ people to carry out this role, whenever the pool is open, to ensure the safety of all visitors.
