First Coquetdale Repair Cafe is a triumph
Northumberland GazetteThe whole of the hall was alive with enthusiastic activity. Owners of items were learning new skills; volunteers were sharing knowledge and ideas. I was listening to fascinating stories about items which needed to be fixed.\nMany people were welcomed in just to have a look at what was happening, and to have a cuppa and piece of cake.

More about our impact
The environment
At our first event 29 various items were repaired and saved from landfill. At our second event we were even more successful with 33 repaired items. The owners did not have to go out and buy new items or have them delivered to their doors. They watched the repairs being done and learned new skills from the repairers.
The local economy
When we couldn't fix an item ourselves, we referred the owner to local business for parts, services etc.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Coquetdale Repair Café has been set up and is run solely by volunteers. Our core team consists of 6 organising committee members, 15 repairers and 5 members of the local WI who baked cakes and served hot drinks. There is always room for new volunteers; anyone with repairing skills is most welcome! Visitors bringing in repairs are encouraged to watch the items being fixed and learn new repairing skills themselves. The repairers are happy to instruct and help.
Arts, culture & heritage
Visitors were inspired by the creative skills of the repairers, such as a special 'stain / hole hiding' embroidery technique for textiles, traditional darning of knitwear, traditional basket weaving and upholstery techniques. Ancient garden tools were repaired and sharpened, and saved from the bin. Recipes for the cakes offered in the café were in demand. Sighs of admiration were heard throughout the day!
Activity, health and leisure
Community spirit, inspiring action towards shared goals, a welcoming social setting, creativity, friendly interaction... That's what the Repair Café is about, and we saw all of it happen right before our eyes!
