The idea

Having been granted planning permission to extend our hub, we now need community support to achieve our goal.

Our tiny little garage will be extended by 25 square meters to increase storage and working areas. This will provide us with the space needed to meet the increasing demands on our service.

Within our premises, we not only store the supplies but also compile the support parcels, which are then distributed to our users.

The new and improved hub will incorporate a welcome area where users will be greeted with a smile, additional storage areas for supplies and an office area which will also be available to our partner agencies to use when privacy is required.

The Community Cupboard is well established within the community and has provided a platform for local residents to be actively involved with the project.

What we'll deliver

  • A larger premises to continue increased distribution of food and grocery aid.
  • A safe and confidential space for signposting services to be provided.
  • A platform for community involvement.

Why it's a great idea

As an established independent Foodbank we continue to provide a much needed service to the community.

Whilst many other emergency food distributors either closed or reduced their hours during the pandemic, we worked hard to remain open. We extended our opening hours to meet the growing demand and increased our coverage area . Space inside our hub is now minimal.

Extending our premises will provide us with an increased working area to facilitate the growing number of support parcels that are distributed daily.

* We will be able to provide a safe and confidential space for our users who require to be signposted to supporting agencies.

* We will continue to provide a platform to local residents and businesses whereby they can become involved with the community project by donating or volunteering their time.

* Offering a friendly and welcoming environment ensures that we also reduce social isolation for many local residents who otherwise have very limited social interaction.

Steps to get it done

  • Secure funding for project
  • Ascertain time frame for building works
  • Prepare temporary premises to avoid distribution disruption
  • Building works to start
