The idea
Unmasked currently have six Community hubs, five within Calderdale and one in Bury. It is important that we can open more community hubs so that people have safe space to go on a weekly basis where we can work as a community to combat loneliness and isolation, with the aim to improve the populations mental health, wellbeing and lower the staggering rates of crisis in the United Kingdom.
We therefore require the funding to create at least three hubs in Hudderfield, Batley and Dewsbury.
What we'll deliver
- Open Community Hubs
- Provide refreshments to the service users
- create leaflets specific to the location
- create leaflets with additional services that the service users can use should they require additional assistance
Why it's a great idea
With 1 in 4 people globally suffering from mental health difficulties from anxiety and depression to bipolar and schizophrenia. It has become imperative that there are numerous tasks yet to be done in getting the message across to removing the discrimination and bias associated with the label thus, conscientizing people and encouraging sufferers to come forward and speak to others about their struggles knowing the government alone cannot curb the raging war against all persons with mental health conditions. It is however our belief that with dedication and likeminded people to help in this mission, it is an achievable goal.
Steps to get it done
- locating places to open Community Hubs
- Creating leaflets to advertise the Hub
- Create leaflets to show additional support systems in the local community
- Buy equipment needed
- Run the Community hub on a Thursday evening 19:00 to 21:00
We would also be interested to know if you know of any specific locations (e.g. community centre, church etc.) where the Community Hubs could run from, within Kirklees, on a Thursday evening between 19:00 and 21:00.
