More about our impact
The environment
I think this project is ongoing in improving the the environment, as we plant more and create habitats for bees and other pollinators.
Volunteering, jobs & education
This project has risen the volunteering opportunities within our community, helping people to socialise, build confidence and connect with people in their local community. Holding our community events in the garden with partners such as Chester zoo has really given the opportunity to look at nature around us and lean about the greenery around us. We have also partnered with Youth Fed who delivered a Green ambassador programme for teenagers from our garden. The young people took part in bush craft skills, water purifying, building shelters and first aid. Starting in September 2024 Youth Fed will be delivering a Duke of Edinburgh programme for 14 to 25 year olds.
Activity, health and leisure
The project has encouraged people to get active through light gardening activities. Volunteers have said that being outside in the fresh air and mixing the community has really benefitted their mental health. During one of our community picnic in the garden we had a lady who delivered a yoga session which was really enjoyed by the local children. Westminster is an area of high deprivation so having this community garden has given the community somewhere to go to meet people, to join in activities for free.
