to create a community garden to allow us to supply fresh fruit and vegetables to those that are in need to hold coffee and friendship mornings for the elderly community in a bid to tackle isolation

Maidstone Delivery stage

£0
pledged of £10,293

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Our project aims to bring the community together in Shepway, Maidstone and make them proud to be part of Shepway, through developing a new community allotment scheme with associated projects. We will promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyles; teach life skills; encourage people to be active; promote a sense of well-being and provide a platform for local residents and others to embark on new friendships along the way. we plan to install a class room in order to accommodate all the local groups such as scouts, brownies, cadets, nurseries, pre-schools and colleges who will be invited to attend on selected days and dates to be part of our Allotment Group. Craft days Bug hunts Messy creative days Fun with food days Coffee and friendship mornings which will be open to the elderly community Partnership with Job Centre Plus - enabling job seekers to do volunteering Partnership with Probation services - enabling community service and help to rehabilitate offenders

What we'll deliver:

  • we will build raised flower beds
  • Install a fresh water supply to the site in order to keep our produce growing well and to help maintain hygiene standard
  • we will install pathways that are accessible by all, including wheelchair and pushchair friendly

Why it's a great idea:

Shepway is a known area of deprivation and also an area that lacks green space according to the local council. There is no community spirit left in Shepway and we plan to change this. To transform our neighbourhood into a sharing and caring community,

Steps to get it done:

  • install a water supply to the land to enable us to maintain our large project
  • purchase a steel storage container to store all our equipment in to ensure safe and secure
  • purchase benches and tables for the wild life corner and picnic area
  • build poly tunnels and cold frames
  • Build Raised beds and pathways
  • build the main feature path through the middle of the Garden 3 meter wide and 50meters long
  • De-weed the land and remove any rubbish from the area
