Who we are
Cranford Action Group is a non-party political group of volunteers united to greening and cleaning Cranford. We united in early 2020 as concerned residents over issues of fly tipping and litter in our streets, parks and green spaces. This newsletter will set out our aims, achievements and how you can get involved.
Our principal activity is clearing problematic areas by reporting fly tip and litter hot spots to London Borough of Hounslow as well as community organised litter picks. Fly tipping and littering is unacceptable and deteriorates the local area.
CAG work collegiately with London Borough of Hounslow and have reported just under 3000 fly tips this year to Hounslow Highways and enforcement teams on private, public land and green spaces. Persistent fly tipping hot spots continue outside Cranford library, street bins, lamp posts, tree pits and cable boxes. We have been successful in the installation of CCTV at some fly tipping hot spots and authorities have already fined offenders which have resulted in a criminal record.
Cleaning
We are campaigning for more effective and robust street cleansing and enforcement regime. We have been successful in increasing the frequency of street cleaning along Bath Road and Berkeley Parade.
We are campaigning for more effective waste disposal regimes for flats above shops. We are campaigning for more street bins with improved bin design. We have secured two litter bins along the north and south bound lorry by areas Parkway for truckers to dispose of their litter
We are campaigning for more street trees to make Cranford greener and have secured tens of trees in Cranford this year.
We are working with local schools, places of worship and local businesses on our initiatives.
Greening
Trees are the most powerful weapon to tackle climate change. To mitigate the effect of pollution, CAG in collaboration with Heathrow and Keep Britain Tidy, CAG have been busy planting trees, bulbs and wildflower across Cranford.
In the new year, CAG commence on the nature recovery strategy of the River Crane corridor from Crane Bank and across the A4 with LB of Hounslow, Friends of River Crane Environment and Crane Valley Partnership. We are also committed to the climate emergency action plan and are part of the Hounslow cleaner greener recovery referencing group and are signed up for the environmental champions programme.
