More about our impact
The environment
We use food that is saved from landfill and use this to make food for socials. We also use plants and flowers that were going to disposed of by the supermarkets and local businesses to do a craft activity with (making floral arrangements).
The local economy
By enabling people to come to the lunch socials on a weekly basis, this has meant that it is one less meal they need to pay for at home and, therefore, has enabled them to have a little bit more money to spend on other things. We also rent the rooms from local parish centres, halls and community centres and buy ingredients for food from local businesses.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Our projects have interested many more volunteers to want to join us at SVP Chorley Buddies. These projects have also helped to secure the salaries of full time and part time members of staff.
Arts, culture & heritage
There are many elements of our weekly timetable where we incorporate art. We have drawing, painting, sculping and craft classes running every week. We have seen our beneficiaries gaining an increased interest in learning other creative techniques which is fantastic!
Activity, health and leisure
Our exercise classes have really taken off this year and more and more people are joining in. We are seeing a lot of the older generation attending these classes as many of them are seated exercises which are perfect for them.
